Oscars Fashion Recap
There were a great deal of gorgeous gowns this year. Classic black, metallics, and light whimsical colors all graced the gowns worthy of mention here. Natalie Portman made you want to get plastic surgery or something -- she is just a flawless beauty. So pretty. She wore a pink strapless Rodarte gown and the bodice looked amazing during the telecast while she presented. Mean Girls & Mama Mia's Amanda Seyfried showed up on the red carpet in this Valentino dress. It kind of looked too big on her. That, or the bow was trying to eat her. On the runway, the bottom on the dress is supposed to be a tad bit higher and reasonably so -- this looks big. Penelope Cruz wore this gorgeous Balmain vintage gown. It's over 60 years old and she looked amazing in it on stage winning for best actress in a supporting role. It had beautiful embroidered designs and the gown was draped beautifully.
Miley Cyrus suprised me in this Zuhair Murad Couture. An ivory dress with silver and navy detailing, belted waist (very popular tonight), and beautifully layered gown. Amazing pick for her.
Alicia Keys showed up in this pink strapless gown and wig -- or atleast it looks like a wig. The dress was decent, her make up though, AMAZING. She's always gorgeous. The always pale and snowy Tilda Swinton appeared in this Lanvin get-up. I'm not too fond it. Her look doesn't sit well with me. It makes me kind of naustious. Oh well.
Beyonce, who you all know, I LOVE, disappointed me this year. She ALWAYS shows up at the Academy Awards slaying but tonight? She showed up in an extremely form-fitting House of Dereon (gag) mermaid gown, straight out of the Tina Knowles Curtains to Dresses Studio. Atleast so it appeared. The gold pattern, ew. The hair? Even worse. She is a beautiful woman though. So atleast she's pretty. My favorite look from the night came from Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior Haute Couture. This "barely mint" princess gown had a gorgeous embroidered bodice with gold designs. Below the belted waist was a wide skirt of tulle. I thought she looked phenomenal!
Taraji P. Henson wore a fantastic white, layered Cavalli gown that was quite a vision. She looked gorgeous. Her hair and her jewelry completed her look, ten-fold. Gorgeous woman! Jessica Biel looked quite pretty in this gown. The bloused bow hanging from the edge of the dress is definitely a structure that is in. I wasn't too fond of the straight length, I'd much rather see her in a mermaid, or trained gown. The straight look didn't do much for her figure and she has a gorgeous figure. Diane Lane I thought looked angelic in this black strapless gown. It was enough for her. I never really thought she needed much to make her beautiful. She's a simple, natural beauty and I loved this look on her. Marisa Tomei showed up in a grey satin organza Atelier Versace gown. I thought she looked fabulous. Very fitting and her hair was beautiful.
Kate Winslet scored literally, in this steel blue Saint Laurent gown. The constructed one shoulder look is definitely in and the belted waist is a focal point in many of the dresses that were on the carpet. Freida Pinto in a blue Galliano dress; simply amazing. The one armed lace and fabric around her next with the fitted waist looked gorgeous on her. Angelina Jolie in a black Elie Saab gown looked classic and demure. Her hair tousled back and emerald green jewels finished her look. It looked a lot like Beyonce's 2005 Atelier Versace black-velvet gown. Here's my second favorite, Anne Hathaway in a champagne Armani Prive gown looking absolutely gorgeous! I loved this gown and it fit her so well. The silver and cream suited her complextion and she's already a naturally beautiful woman, this dress made her look AMAZING! The whole lower half of the gown was layered in paillettes that gave it that scaly, mermaid shinyness. She completed her look with jewels from Cartier. These were just some of the highlights. Overall, the red carpet was rather pleasant. Many followed popular trends this season and many stunned with their flowing mermaid gowns and layered gowns.
